On 23–24 September, MMinE-SwEEPER consortium partners Aarhus University and JPI Oceans presented a poster on the ongoing collaborative efforts within the Munitions in the Sea community at the “Accelerating the Mission: A Danish EU Presidency Conference for the Restoration and Sustainability of Europe’s Ocean and Waters” at Nyborg Strand, Denmark.
The event focused on the Horizon Europe Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, bringing together high-level discussions, workshops, and actionable recommendations to advance marine restoration and sustainability across Europe. With our poster, we not only showcased MMinE-SwEEPER but also highlighted other EU co-funded projects: MUNI-RISK, CAMMera, MUNIMAP, BaltWreck, and REMARCO. We emphasised which research areas in the field are currently being addressed by the different projects, the main pressing questions they seek to answer, and how they collaborate to achieve these goals. This approach helped us attract attention from a wide variety of stakeholders. It also enabled us to build new connections, for example with ministry representatives from Croatia for our stakeholder exchange, while at the same time informing local students in Denmark about the pressing issue of underwater munitions, a topic many of them had little to no prior knowledge about.
The poster presentation also sparked conversations about upcoming engagements at EU events, such as the EU Ocean Days, to continue highlighting our efforts and the need for stronger action on a European scale.
