SHOM

France

SHOM is the National Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service for France. Its missions include collecting, producing, and disseminating geographic reference information on marine physical environment parameters such as bathymetry, sedimentology, currents, temperature, salinity, and underwater noise, while also predicting their evolution.

SHOM has access to four hydrographic vessels, one research vessel, and two gliders for data collection over an area spanning more than 60 million km². Its overarching goal is to provide essential information to ensure safe navigation within the French Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and other responsibility areas (>750 nautical charts), support defense needs, and offer science-based evidence underpinning maritime and coastal policies.

Role in MMinE-SwEEPER

SHOM leads Task 4.1 - Sedimentological Assessment & Simulations of Potential Buried Munition.
